Understanding Shapes and Masters

If you want to know what goes on behind the scenes when you work with Visio 2007 shapes, this section is for you. This information is useful primarily if you plan to create new shapes and save them for reuse as master shapes. Each master has an internal timestamp that records the date and time it was last updated. When you drag a master onto the drawing page, Visio 2007 uses its timestamp to determine whether to make a copy of the master on the document stencil. An instance or copy of the master appears on the drawing page, as Figure 21-9 shows.
