4.5. Importing SQL Server Data into Excel 2007

Our exploration of Excel Data Connection to external data now proceeds to SQL Server. Since SQL Server is published by Microsoft, it makes sense that Microsoft Excel comes with the client components required to connect to a SQL Server database server—there are no other connectivity components needed.

Figure 4-29 shows how we start the process of connecting to SQL Server. Excel 2007 makes it easy, since it's the first choice in the From Other Sources menu.

  1. Click the Get External Data icon in the Connections menu group, on the Ribbon menu Data tab.

  2. Click the From Other Sources icon on the pop-up menu.

  3. Click the From SQL Server choice in the pop-up menu.

  4. Enter the Server Name where the SQL Server database ...
