5.2. SharePoint 2007 Portal

Figure 5-1 shows the default SharePoint 2007 home page. It has an immediate look and feel of a modern web site, which is exactly what it is—for internal use. Everything about SharePoint can be changed and customized. It's interface is much like Windows File Explorer in that you have a root level or home page, and you can construct subsites connected to the home page and click in a explorer-like manner through multiple site levels.

The browser URL address used to display a default SharePoint home page is simply "http://server_name," where server_name is the name of the SharePoint server. SharePoint essentially takes over the server on which it's installed and becomes the default web site on the server.
