Modifying Column Properties

When working with list and library columns, you are effectively defining the list or library schema just as you would when working directly with tables in SQL. SharePoint includes options for defining data (or field) types, such as single line of text or multiple lines of text, column validation, and enforced column data/metadata population, namely required columns. Column definition is critical to a successful SharePoint deployment because aside from defining data and data entry, columns are the backbone to defining SharePoint search configuration.
