Editing Web Part Zones

SharePoint Designer includes several options when you’re editing Web part zones, including options to limit end user modification of any Web parts contained within a Web part zone, such as minimizing and closing Web parts on a page.

Note

Web part zones make it possible for users to add Web parts to pages via the Web interface. You should avoid simply adding text or images into a Web part zone while editing pages in SharePoint Designer because you are not able to edit the content via the Web interface. For instance, if you insert an image directly into a Web part zone then, when the page is set to edit mode via the Web interface, the image appears in a Web part but does not include any editing features, such as picture ...
