Create a New Page Layout Based on an Existing Content Type
In this section, you learn how to create a new page layout in SharePoint Designer based on one of the existing page layout content types. You walk through the process from creation to final publishing and making the page available in the Web interface.
To create a new page layout based on the existing Enterprise Wiki page layout, use the following steps.

The following exercise assumes a site in a SharePoint Server 2010 deployment which has the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure Feature activated at the site-collection level and the SharePoint Server Publishing Feature activated in the site currently open in SharePoint Designer.
