When creating new themes for SharePoint 2010, you can use PowerPoint 2007 or 2010, Excel 2007 or 2010 or Word 2007 or 2010 to create and customize a theme, including colors, fonts and other formatting such as shape effects. As mentioned, one benefit in using Office themes for SharePoint 2010 sites is that you might already have existing themes in use for PowerPoint presentations and can conveniently reuse those themes in SharePoint sites.
