Filtering Data

When working with data from LOB systems, you could be working with large data sets that might contain tens of thousands to millions of items. This can place a large load on not only the SharePoint environment but also your LOB application when pulling this data into an External List.

With this in mind there are several ways we can ensure a minimal effect when retrieving large data. The first way is to limit the number of items returned in a view. By default, External Lists limit a view to 30 items per page. This can be changed by modifying the default view in your External List.
