Workflow Association and Initiation Forms

There is often data you want to capture in a workflow that might not necessarily be a value stored against the list item or document—for example the document approver, which can be captured when the workflow is started. As the workflow progresses you might also want to capture additional data such as the time taken for a task to be completed. There are two types of variables: initiation and workflow local variables.

Initiation variables are captured via a form that is displayed when a user manually starts the workflow. When a workflow is attached to a list or library you have the option to set values in these forms that is stored as the default value when the workflow is started.
