Setting the Type of Action

When you configure a custom action in SharePoint Designer, one of the options includes choosing the type of action associated with the custom action. The action defines what happens when a user clicks a custom action link, or button. There are three types of actions:

Navigate to Form: Navigate to one of the out-of-the-box list forms or custom list form. Note: custom actions do not appear on InfoPath form ribbons.

Initiate Workflow: Start a workflow associated with the current list.

Navigate to URL: Navigate to a URL. This could include a list form or other internal or external Web part or location.
