So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
The dta Command-Line Utility
dta is the command-line version of the graphical Database Engine Tuning Advisor. Both the command-line utility and graphical tool provide performance recommendations based on the workload provided to them. The syntax for dta is as follows:
dta [ -? ] |[ [ -S server_name[ \instance ] ] { { -U login_id [-P password ] } | –E } { -D database_name [ ,...n ] } [-d database_name ] [ -Tl table_list | -Tf table_list_file ] { -if workload_file | -it workload_trace_table_name | -ip (take workload from plan cache) [ -ipf ] (filter query on database id (false))
