The Toolbox window in Report Designer and the ribbon in Report Builder allow you to choose any of the three generic data regions for your report—a table, matrix, or list. Behind the scenes, these are all the same type of report item called a tablix. In this chapter, we explain how its name was derived and introduce important concepts that you must understand to develop more advanced layouts.
