Chapter 12. Using functions

Expressions are the key to informative, flexible, and dynamic reports. Chapter 11, provides an introduction to the use of expressions as calculations and for conditional formatting. In this chapter, you learn about the variety of built-in functions and how to use external functions. This chapter organizes the functions by using the same categories that you see in the Expression dialog box and then groups similar functions together. Although we cannot describe every possible scenario for using each function, we provide common reasons for using particular functions where applicable.

Note

A few functions appear in more than one category in the Expression dialog box. In this chapter, we list such functions only once.
