Chapter 32. Understanding Report Definition Language
When you design a report by using Report Designer or Report Builder, the output of this process is a report definition file that describes your report using Report Definition Language (RDL). In most cases, you don’t need to know anything about RDL to successfully create reports and deploy them to the report server. However, there are times when you might find it easier to make a change directly to the RDL rather than to use one of the report design interfaces, or you might need to programmatically create a report definition file. For those situations, you need to develop a good understanding of RDL.
