Operating System Integration

SQL Server is designed to take advantage of the Windows 2000 and Windows 9x operating systems. This means that several common NT and Windows 9x components provide additional functionality to SQL Server.


The majority of the topics discussed in this section are specific to the Windows 2000 version of SQL Server. The Windows 9x version provides similar operating system functionality.

Taskbar Integration

The status of SQL Server, SQL Server Service Manager, Microsoft DTC, and Microsoft Search are integrated with the taskbar in Windows 2000 and Windows 9x. From the taskbar, you can also start and stop the services listed.
