Comparing Values over Time
Almost all OLAP cubes contain a time dimension. That’s because almost all business activities take place over time, and it’s always useful to compare where one is with where one was. Not surprisingly, many business reporting requirements involve the use of time, and consequently, MDX supports a large number of functions that facilitate analyzing values with time. In this section, you’ll learn how to use member functions that help you compare values over time. In Chapter 7, you’ll learn how to summarize values over time, such as calculating year-to-date totals.
