SQL Server Browser Service
SQL Server 2005 introduces a new program called the SQL Server Browser (sqlbrowser.exe), which is used to provide information about SQL Server instances installed on the system. For those of you who are familiar with SQL Server 2000, the SQL Browser service replaces the SQL Server Resolution Service which operated on UDP port 1434 and provided a way for clients to query for network endpoints of SQL Server instances.
