Summary

In this chapter, you learned about the various tools that SQL Server 2005 has to offer the DBA. You learned the various components of SQL Server Management Studio and how to view the new summary reports to get a quick indication of how your SQL Server is performing, analyze the various logs, and view the current activity on your SQL Server instance.

In addition, you learned how to set up SQL Server alerts based either on error messages, performance monitor object counters, or WMI events.

You then learned how to use SQL Server Management Studio to generate the execution plan for T-SQL queries for analysis, so as to be able to see how they are being executed by SQL Server’s query optimizer.
