Deploying the Protection Agent Using Certificates
Data Protection Manager 2012 added the support of protecting target servers through the use of certificates. Instead of requiring a target server to be a member server of a domain, or using a local administrator account on the target system, organizations can issue a certificate to the target server and have DPM identify the target server by the certificate. The certificate method of backup is perfect for DMZ-resident servers such as web or Gateway servers. Additionally, certificate-based backups are useful for target devices like appliances, kiosks, or data acquisition devices that are not part of a domain but would benefit from being backed up.
