Previous chapters have described the rationale behind XML and explained its benefits, such as portability, interoperability, and so on. Although version 1.1.4 of the JDK predates much of the XML support now available for Java, many recent packages developed by the Java Community Process program provide mechanisms for applications written in Java to convert objects into XML representations and back again.
