Chapter 12. Working with Web Services

After completing this chapter, you will be able to

  • Use the File Upload control in a page.

  • Upload documents to a location on the server.

  • Create a Web service.

  • Reference a Web service in your project.

  • Use a Web service in an ASP.NET page.

In the previous chapter, you learned about mashups, how to create them in Microsoft Popfly, and how to integrate them in ASP.NET pages, using Visual Web Developer. Mashups combine, or mash, Web services from different vendors to create new applications.

In this chapter, you learn how to create your own Web service with Visual Web Developer. The service will help create new functionality in uploading and accessing documents for the personal portal.
