22. Running Problem Programs

It doesn’t happen to everyone, but it could happen to you. You upgrade to Windows 7 but then find that your favorite program no longer runs. That’s because not all older programs are fully compatible with Windows 7; there’s no guarantee that a program written for Windows XP, let’s say, will run seamlessly in the new Windows 7 environment.

Program incompatibility is particularly problematic with custom programs, such as applications written for a specific company. While it’s unlikely you’ll have problems running an old version of Quicken, for example, your company’s six-year-old custom database program might crash and burn under Windows 7.
