The following questions and guidelines help you determine which of the automated installation and customization tools is most appropriate for your environment. The guidelines describe baseline requirements for each of the tools:
Do the client computers have compatible Hardware Abstraction Layers (HALs)? Before you can determine which tool to use, you have to find out whether the client computers have compatible HALs. If the client computers don’t have compatible HALs, you can’t use disk imaging with Sysprep or the Remote Installation Preparation tool (Riprep.exe), which is a component of RIS.
