Installing Services for UNIX
To simplify connecting to and working with UNIX systems, Microsoft released the Services for UNIX product, which contains all the tools needed for interoperating between Windows Server 2003 and UNIX. These tools include an NFS server, client, and gateway; Telnet server and client; a full POSIX subsystem, including an SDK that supports more than 1900 UNIX APIs and more than 350 UNIX utilities, including both a Korn shell and a C shell; a Network Information System (NIS) server and a password synchronization daemon; and a User Name Mapping server to keep track of the different user names between UNIX/ Linux and Windows.
