11.3. Virtualization and Scaling
In Chapter 1, in the section "Virtualization and the Hypervisor" you learned about the Viridian project and the resulting Microsoft server virtualization technologies from an architectural perspective. Some of the promised virtualization technologies that are part of Windows Server 2008's internal architecture are enabled by the hypervisor add-on to Windows Server 2008–now branded as Hyper-V. Hyper-V adds a modest additional cost to Windows Server 2008, and provides the enablement of many of the technologies described in the sections that follow.
