Chapter 7. Printing and Faxing
Paperless office? Hardly. Computer users have felled entire forests to feed inexpensive, quality printers and preserve a paper trail “just in case”. Under Windows XP, the operating system, rather than individual programs, handles printing. When you print something in any application, you activate XP’s intermediary printing system, which accepts print jobs from programs and feeds them to the printer. This process, called background printing, lets you keep working in your program during printing.
