Chapter 16. Managing User Accounts
Windows XP is a true multiple-user OS that lets several people use one PC without intruding on—or even viewing—one another’s files, settings, and tastes. To start a Windows session, you log on to your user account, which gives you personalized access to the system. Each user has his or her own desktop, Start menu, My Documents folder, Control Panel settings, email account, Internet details (Favorites, History, cookies, and cached Web pages), application settings, permissions, and other odds and ends. A user’s private files, folders, and preferences are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>, which enables Windows to personalize the desktop each time the user logs on.
