Using the Indexing Service for a Fast Find

Windows XP includes an indexing service for indexing almost everything on a disk. Placing indexes on your files is done as a search-and-replace measure that will hopefully seek out files faster. You can selectively disable or enable a file as a candidate for the indexing service. You do this through the file or folder's properties sheets. Select the General tab and then click Advanced. This will generate a dialog box similar to the dialogs used to compress and encrypt files. To index your files, simply use the section titled Archive and Index Attributes.
