Using System Monitor
Although Task Manager is good for getting a quick overview of the current performance of your system, it pales in comparison to the functionality provided by System Monitor. System Monitor is one of two parts of a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in called Performance, with the other part being the Performance Logs and Alerts tool.
System Monitor works in much the same way as the old Performance Monitor application that came with various versions of Windows NT. When Windows 2000 came out, the utility was retooled as an MMC snap-in and given the name System Monitor. Not too much has been added since the Windows 2000 version, so those of you familiar with that version may just want to skim this material.
