Restricting Network Access to Files and Folders

Sharing files over a network is usually a fairly simple process, at least in mechanical terms: Open the properties dialog box for a folder, select a check box, give the shared resource a name to identify it over the network, and wait for other network users to connect to the shared resource.

Sharing files securely over a network is a different story. Different versions of Windows offer different mechanisms for sharing files, and the task becomes even more complicated when computers on a network use differing versions of Windows.
