Viewing the Log of Security Events
Windows records the security events that you've chosen to audit in the Security log. To view the Security log, you use Event Viewer, a Microsoft Management Console snap-in. The Event Viewer snap-in is in Computer Management, under System Tools. Windows also offers an uncluttered view in a predefined console that contains only the Event Viewer snap-in. To open this console, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, or simply type eventvwr.msc at a command prompt. You can use Event Viewer to examine any of the three logs: Application (Appevent.evt), Security (Secevent.evt), or System (Sysevent.evt).
