If SQL Servers are left unkept or unmanaged, maintaining them can become overwhelming. Even then, some of the most maintained SQL Servers still have room for improvement. Health checks are meant to assist you, as database administrator (DBA), by providing more information on current issues or uncovering potential issues and then recommending best practice recommendations or resolutions based on experience.

Typically, organizations budget a health check annually as a part of their routine maintenance plan. However, health checks are not always planned events.
