Windows PowerShell is Microsoft’s next-generation scripting language. More and more server-based products are starting to come out with various levels of support for this new scripting language.

This chapter starts by providing an overview of what Windows PowerShell is. Then it describes some of the basic features of Windows PowerShell that SQL Server 2008 users should find useful. Practical examples later in the chapter demonstrate the use of these features with SQL Server 2008.
