Assessment of Labour Progress
Normal progress of labour is the ability of both woman and foetus to respond to the physiological demands of labour without deviating from normal.
OBJECTIVES
- Early identification of deviations from normal labour.
- Sustain no injury to mother and foetus during labour.
- Motivate woman for active participation in labour process.
METHODS OF ASSESSING LABOUR PROGRESS
Labour progress can be assessed by two methods:
- Recording of partograph
- Recording of cervicograph
Recording of Partograph
Partogram is an effective means of recording the progress of labour (Figure 21.1). It is a chart on which the following salient features of labour are entered in a graphic form:
- Maternal temperature
- Pulse
- BP
