Conducting Delivery

Second stage of labour is the period from full dilatation of the os to the birth of the baby. As the labour progresses, the foetus moves through the birth canal and is induced to make various twists and turns called labour mechanism by which it is delivered.

OBJECTIVES
  1. Receive a healthy baby.
  2. Prevent maternal complications.
  3. Sustain no injury to the mother and baby during labour.
POINTS TO REMEMBER
  1. Aseptic technique should be followed throughout the delivery process.
  2. Check that equipments are ready as described in practical 20.
  3. Advice to beardown only when the cervix is fully dilated.
  4. Episiotomy is given at the peak of uterine contraction whenever required.
