Preparation for Medical/Surgical Induction
Induction of labour is defined as the initiation of uterine contractions before the spontaneous onset of labour by medical and/or surgical means for the purpose of accomplishing birth process.
OBJECTIVES
- Describing maternal and fetal indications for induction of labour.
- Explaining the method of oxlytocin infusion.
- Helping to assess the progress of labour through Bishop’s scoring system.
INDICATIONS
Indications: Maternal
- Postterm pregnancy
- Hypertension
- Other medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus, renal diseases
- Premature rupture of membranes
- Placental abruption
- Previous stillbirth
- Unstable lie
Contraindications: Maternal
- Client refusal
- Placenta previa
- Abnormal foetal presentation ...
