In reaction to the failure of the three-step approach, we decided to take a new approach and build a checklist of must-do items. In this chapter, I describe the checklist, the management tactics used to change direction, and the reaction of the teams to the checklist. We had to learn by doing and in this chapter I share our experience of making a big change.
The Rollout
We needed to be specific, and we needed to assemble a detailed list of tasks. For a few hours, five of us got in a room. We created a checklist with 76 items. Our checklist had four major categories:
