Assessing the Environment

Before undertaking any migration project, you must understand the environment that will be migrated. Regrettably, this is typically not an easy task. Organizational changes, attrition, and the inexorable passing of time often combine to make it difficult to understand the full scope of the application composition and the associated supporting infrastructure, as well as the various interconnects and dependencies that might exist. Ideally, the enterprise should be able to furnish a document set that contains all the relevant information that will be required, but this is rarely the case.
