6. Mining to See the Future

We have seen techniques for Mining the Talk being used to tackle a wide range of challenging problems in industry. To this point, though, all of our analysis has essentially been a study of the past, of what has been said before in order to understand what people are communicating. Basically, this is a historical analysis. In this chapter, we shift our focus from understanding the past, to showing how Mining the Talk techniques can be used to gain insight into how events may unfold in the future.
