6 The Global Online Information Quality Check Model

The model we propose for online content analysis is a descriptive tool which developed out of our day-to-day online chats and discussions during 2020 (see Figure 6.1). It is inspired by the early philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein – whose works Uyiosa had been reading during lockdown – and aims to clarify thoughts and propositions in any content that is analysed. Web-based, written, non-graphical information (such as articles, commentary, etc.) is analysed and then scored, based on criteria designed specifically to evaluate the quality of analytical content.

The process starts with web-based content, then a decision is made whether the content is analysable or not. If “yes” then analysis, scoring and classification are carried out step-by-step. If the response is “no” then the content is classified as unanalysable and then further categorised. Content scored below 5.0 is classified as “non-analytical.” The flowchart ends with users’ rating of content.
