2.2. Systems Engineering

Systems engineering on space missions embodies the management and oversight of all technical aspects on the project. The mission system engineer (MSE) is responsible for the requirements engineering and performance verification of the overall system. The MSE relies on the systems engineering team for support in many of the technical responsibilities. Other responsibilities include performing trade studies and administering the lessons-learned process. The MSE works closely with the program manager (PM) with regard to trade studies or other issues that affect cost and schedule.
