The development of mobile applications not only includes creating a mobile client that communicates with your back-end systems, but often requires modifying and extending your existing application architecture.

In this chapter, we initially look at how the architectures of modern enterprise web applications have evolved. We then explore some of the modifications and extensions that will have to be made to these architectures in order for them to accommodate new mobile applications.
