When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Creating the UI for the application
- Let's expand the Resources folder we saw in the previous screenshot, and then the layout folder in Solution Explorer. Double-click on Main.axml to open it. This is the layout file for the app's screen. By default, it gets opened in Android Designer; you can also click on the Source tab at the bottom to see the XML code for it. This layout file is the main UI file that we'll add our UI controls to, and what we'll see when we run our app once it is finished:
Let's add an input field to enter a phone number. Drag the Phone field from the Toolbox (left pane) into the Designer view of the Main.axml file:
