So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Painting on mobile devices requires traditional skills and a plan. Mike Miller displays a method to his madness.
A few examples in this book detail the use of a layers feature in the app “Brushes”. This painting was created in June 2009, months before layers functionality was implemented in the app, and was painted the way one would paint traditionally, from back to front on a single layer.
I start by blocking in the man swallowing the city, first as a rough sketch and then, in the next panel, add the details such as teeth, eyes, and shadowing.
