Modeling of Systems
As Captain Jack Sparrow says in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, “the hull, keel and sails are what a Ship needs, but what a Ship is, is freedom”. In a similar way it is important to think beyond the parts of a model and how the model is put together to understand what a model is. For example, a model consists of connections, parameters, behavior, and structure, but what the model is really is the vehicle by which we can accomplish design. This is a crucial concept for model-based engineering as we use models to do design, not modeling for the sake of it.
4.1 Modeling in the Context of Design
As has been described in Chapter 1, this book is intended to describe the techniques required for model-based engineering ...
