The internal memorandum

Before email took over, the most common way to communicate with someone inside your own organisation was using a memorandum. These would be printed messages, sometimes enclosed within reusable envelopes. They would be dropped into employees’ in-trays on their desks, or sent within branches of the same company via internal mail.

These days, email is now the usual method for internal communication. However, I do know of some government departments and other organisations where memos are still used, so in this chapter we’ll take a look at this document. All the messages in this chapter can of course be used as emails.
