The Performance Analysis Modeling (PAM) subprofile of MARTE is used to compute the expected performance characteristics of event-driven real-time applications. This includes key parameters such as average service times, queuing delays, and maximal queue sizes. It is based primarily on a probabilistic approach for modeling traffic systems called queuing theory. This chapter first explains the core concepts of PAM and illustrates their use through a simple example. This is followed by an overview of some of the more sophisticated features of PAM for more complex situations.
