Chapter 12

Extending MARTE [Advanced]

The material in this chapter is intended for advanced MARTE users who desire to customize MARTE for a specific domain or project. It explains the various methods for adding new concepts to MARTE or for refining existing ones. Although the focus here is on MARTE, the approach described here is suitable for extending any valid UML profile. It is illustrated using a simple example in which MARTE is extended to support an existing industry standard called AADL. This chapter concludes with a discussion of the pragmatic issues associated with specializing profiles such as MARTE.
