Schemata in Large Environments

The large environments of certain corporations or government administration pose particular problems to schema developers. In some cases, existing schemata were developed in isolation by various business units; in other cases, schemata were inherited during the acquisition of whole companies. In most of these cases it is not possible to change these schemata to integrate them into one consistent set of schemata because these would render large information bases invalid.
