7.1 FSK in Rayleigh and Rician Fading

This chapter discusses several topics in Simulink based on FSK modulation in fading channels. Specifically these topics include the following:

  • BFSK BER performance in Rayleigh fading
  • MFSK BER performance in Rayleigh fading
  • BFSK BER performance in Rician fading
  • CPFSK BER performance in Rician fading with Multipath

7.2 BFSK BER Performance in Rayleigh Fading

This section discusses BFSK BER performance in Rayleigh fading. A brief review of the theoretical BFSK BER performance for Rayleigh fading channels is provided in Appendix 7.A. The error probability for BFSK in Rayleigh fading assuming noncoherent detection is given by

where c7-math-0002 is the average SNR/bit. The time-varying nature of the channel is again characterized by its power spectral density c7-math-0003 according to the Jakes fading model presented in Chapter 6.

A simulation to estimate the BER for BFSK with noncoherent detection in Rayleigh fading is shown in Figure 7.1.
